Account Security

Strong password

A strong password is the simplest thing you can do to keep your account safe. Simple passwords such as "qwerty123", "talesrunner", or "fastestever" are far too easy for people to guess or crack through the use of a dictionary style (an attack that uses a program that will simply run through different combinations of words and numbers until it gets the right one) account attack

People generally assume that a strong password is hard to remember. Not true.

An example of a strong, memorable password:

Favorite Show: Friends

Mother/Father¡¯s Birthday: 8/15/55

Favorite Special Character: #

Password: Friends8/15/55#

If there is a limit to how long the password can be shorten what you come up with but maintain its difficulty.

Password (Shortened): Fr81555#

You now have a successful strong password.

Note: Mixing capital and lower case letters (LiKe ThIs) adds to the strength of your password.

Note: You can use special characters in your password. (eg: ~!@#$%^&*)

Do Not Share Your Account

This is the best way you can protect your account. Sadly, most players fail when it comes to this. There are many people that will become friends with you simply to gain access to your account and it is not rare for a close friend or family member to help themselves to items that you¡¯ve worked for. Remember, account sharing is against the gPotato Terms of Service and if you are caught, you will be banned.

Q: What if my sibling/best friend/girlfriend/guildmate wants to use my account real quick?

A: Tell them no. Sharing your account not only puts your items/reputation at risk it could get you banned for good.

Q: What could happen if I do share my account?

A: Anyone who has access to your account could:

1. Steal/Delete your items.
2. Ruin your reputation by saying/doing things you wouldn't.
3. Get you permanently banned.

Q: If I do share my account and something bad happens to my account, can I expect to be helped?

A: No.

Safe Computer Practices

Do not visit:

-Sites that ask for your gPotato.com login information.
-Sites offering free gPotatoes.
-Sites offering hacks.
-Sites offering free items.

These sites almost always contain keyloggers (programs that ¡°log¡± every key stroke you make on your computer.) Downloading anything from these sites is very nearly a guaranteed way to compromise any information on your computer.

Do not:

-Download game content from sites that are not officially recognized by gPotato.
-Enter your login information anywhere other than gPotato.com

Q: How do I know if a site has been approved by gPotato to receive my account information?

A: If you think that a site might be legitimate and would like confirmation simply send an email to trsupport@gala-net.com. We will let you know if the website you saw is legitimate or not.

Remember:

-There is more at stake than simply your game account. Compromising your computer¡¯s security put everyone that ever used your computer at risk. All bank account info, social security numbers, and personal information on your computer are your responsibility to protect.

-If you have further questions about account security or have suggestions that can be added to this brief guide please email trsupport@gala-net.com.
